Magnesium is the second most abundant mineral in the human body, about half of which is present in the skeleton. Magnesium is a vital mineral which contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, normal energy metabolism, muscle contraction and neurotransmission (including heart muscle), protein synthesis, electrolyte balance, cell division, the maintenance of bones and teeth and normal psychological functions. Magnesium also regulates the absorption of calcium and is involved in the structural integrity of bones and teeth. Magnesium deficiency can result in muscle cramps so having an adequate intake of Magnesium may help in reducing the occurrence of these cramps which can be bothersome for many people and can vary in severity and frequency.
